Information for parents

Introduction to PMVC and our History

Being a parent can often be a thankless task. Especially when it comes to supporting them to participate in sport. You want to be sure they enjoy it, that it doesn't cost the earth to take part and that ultimately, they are safe. We at PMVC understand this only too well as most of the committee are parents themselves and have become more involved with the club as volunteers as our children continue to enjoy what our club has to offer.

As our club has grown, our core principals have remained the same - to continue to develop grass roots volleyball in the Plymouth and South Devon area in a safe and welcoming environment whilst also providing talent pathways into competitive gameplay.

Our results speak for themselves in that we have nurtured junior talent that not only are still involved with our club today at adult level, but have also achieved Junior titles with PMVC and the Southwest of England and won National Competitions. One of our past Juniors has even been selected to play for England Under 19's both indoor and on the beach. We currently have several juniors representing their age groups for the South West regional squads.

Training sessions available for juniors

We will be running junior coaching for all abilities of players at Stoke Damerell CC from 6 to 7.30pm on Thursdays throughout the season.

Over the summer (May-September) there is an outdoor social sessions every Monday, on the grass by the bowling green on the iconic Plymouth Hoe. \These are social sessions and are a great way to encourage players to enjoy the social side of the game - our coaches will be in attendance each week to help them settle in and enjoy themselves. Be warned that this is weather dependent so the grass has to be dry and safe.

Membership

We offer junior rates for our annual membership which include a training shirt. We encourage people to enlist as a member as it means that we are then able to reccomend and enter your child into formal competitions. It also means that we can keep you up to date of upcoming information, club events and activities and you will be able to access the members area of our website.

Competitions

There are junior competitions throughout the year which accomodate different levels of experience. Some are are age or gender specific, some are mixed but we only recommend VE registed events and competitions or ones that are endorsed by clubs or associations with VE status.

Some schools may wish to enter your child into school based competitions and we try to work with the schools to ensure they get every opportunity to train towards and play in these competitions.

If we are unable to enter a team in to Regional or National competitions due to a lack of players, we have worked and agreed with other Regional clubs to ensure they still get the chance to play and compete at a level that suits them.

As Parents - what can we do?

Parents all have different levels of interest in sports their children enjoy - some want to get involved (if they can) and some don't. For the club, parents are often the key to how far or how seriously their children want to take their volleyball. If you want to help out (as more than just as a taxi service!), then please let us know. As a family club, we like to play people to their strengths and any support to help the club run smoothly is more than welcome.

As a parent, you will also have access to their members profile on the website.

For your Peace of Mind

Volleyball is an enjoyable sport and as a team game it requires people to co-operate and communicate with each other at all times. We strive to ensure every one who plays in our club enjoys themselves and that they cannot wait to get back on the court again. If there are any concerns that your childs needs are not met, our coaches or Child Welfare Officers are happy to discuss this with you.

Also, All of our coaches and volunteers have up to date DBS forms and are fully registered with Volleyball England to ensure your child has the best support we can offer.
