Sports Club Day and Sport Relief 2014

Sports Club Open Day - Sunday 23 March 2014, 9am-3pm
Join us for an action packed family day out and have fun trying a wide range of sport activities as part of our Sports Club Open Day. Check out the detailed programme, timings of activities and age restrictions below. Please note places will be limited per sport activity and registration will take place on the day.
In addition to the Sport Relief races and our sport activities, there will be an opportunity to find out more about our Sport Sciences and Sport Therapy expertise, as well as well as enjoying a range of entertainment. Don’t miss out on a great day!
Timetable of activities 9am–3pm
Alongside the sports relief mile, a timetable of free sport taster/coaching sessions will take place throughout the day in the University's Sports Centre. These activities are being coached by the University local sport community clubs.
Sign up on arrival on the day at the sports centre for all activities and times throughout the day. Some sessions will have a limit on numbers. Registration details for each event will vary.
Please note a Family Swim will be as normal £10 for 2 adults and 2 children.
Taster sessions include:
- Athletics (ages 5-12)
- Badminton (all ages)
- Basketball (ages 6-16 and parents)
- Body Combat (subject to space availability on the day)
- Climbing Wall Taster sessions age 5+
- Cricket (ages 6-12)
- Table tennis (all ages)
- Tennis (ages 4-7 & 8-11)
- Lacrosse (age 11 years and parents)
- Football (ages 4-8 & 9-12)
- Hockey (ages 4½-11)
- Hockey (all ages plus parents)
- Netball (ages 6-14 plus parents)
- Mighty Minis Multi Sports – Gymnasium (ages 2-4)
- Mighty Minis Multi Sports– Gymnasium (ages 4-8)
- Rugby (ages 5-12)
- Volleyball – Family fun all ages
General throughout the day:
- Meet our Elite Sports Students! See an Olympic medal!
- Visit the Sports Science Laboratory – find out more and see the latest equipment
- Visit the Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Clinic
- Face painting (a small donation to the Sports Relief charity will be required)
- A variety of representatives will be exhibiting on the day such as Exeter Chiefs, Plymouth Argyle, Speedway Motor Cycling, the Armed Forces, Plymouth Sports Development Unit and Plymouth School Partnerships.
Car Parking
Recommended free Park & Ride from the George Junction to the University.
Helpdesks/Information Points
Helpdesks can be located in both the University dining hall and the Sports Centre Marquee
First Aid
A field hospital will be set up around the course. Please go to an information desk where an event assistant will radio the medical crew for help.
Catering
Light food/snacks will be available to purchase on campus throughout the day at:
- The Grandstand Café – Sports Centre
- Starbucks Coffee – University dining hall
- University dining – main dining hall
- The University shop – main campus
What to bring on the day
We recommend that you wear trainers/suitable clothing on the day, and bring sunscreen and water. Please bring a swimming costume if you would like to have a family swim. Please bring your Sainsbury Sport Mile Game Kit if you are participating in the run.
Storage
200 lockers are available in the sports centre.

Please listen out for announcements on the day about any changes in location of activities/cancellation of any of the programme
