On Friday 2nd May, Ellie Cranch and Valeria Minaeva travelled with the rest of the SW U16 Girls squad to London to take part in the 2014 IRC.
The SW Girls were the defending champions so hopes were high. On arrival at the venue it became apparent that our girls would have to modify their normal serving style as there was only about a metre of space behind the service line.
Day 1 saw the SW Girls take on the South East, East Midlands, Yorkshire and London. Only London put up any serious resistance but even they were blown away by the hitting power and consistancy of Ellie, Valeria and Anaya Evans from our North Devon friends at ABS.
Both our girls adapted to to the serving conditions brilliantly with Ellie taking the SW to 16-0 against East Midlands and Valeria 13-0 against Yorkshire.
Day 2 involved the last of the pool matches against East then the Semi Final. With London winning the other Semi the 2 strongest teams had made it to the Final.
SW made a storming start in the 1st set and there was no coming back for London. In the 2nd set London began playing with more composure and took an early lead. However the SW girls never lost belief and pulled it around with Ellie finishing them off with a great hit through 4 to win the set 25-16
