PMVC's Ellie Cranch has returned from England duty in Denmark at NEVZA U19 Tournament where she has impressed again on the International stage. It was her 3rd year playing in the tournament and also her last as she will not be eligible next year as she will be 19.
Englands overall performances were good as they were competitive in all 4 games that they played. They had a very tough opening group as they had the Eventual bronze (Denmark) and Silver (Finland) medallists as competition. They took a set from Denmark and were very close in each set against Finland. This put them in the 5th 6th 7th Playoff where they narrowly lost to Iceland 3-2 after being only a few points from sealing the match in the 4th set. Their last game was against Faroe Islands where they turned the tables on their opposition this time by coming back from 2-1 down to win 3-2. England U19s Women finished 6th overall.
In the other half of the competition, The England U19 Mens had their best result in the competition as they claimed the Bronze medal for the first time.
Ellie was integral to the squad both as a starting 6 player and also from the bench. Her stats were impressive for the overall tournament as she dominated with her serving and her attacking points conversion was high. she was also brilliant in defence with a number of block kills and the highest reception rate in her team in the latter stages of the tournament.
When asked about how she felt on her return "Its always a great experience for me to put on the England kit. The NEVZA tournament provides us with some brilliant competition and its a bit sad that this is my last one. However, I've got a lot still to look forward to as I'm hoping to transfer to the England Young Seniors Squad and im still part of the England Junior Beach programme for next summer. We also have our first National League game with PMVC this weekend in Cardiff which I cant wait for!"
