Match Report

Skills Group Drakes which is PMVC's Junior development mixed team, made a winning start to their Exeter League Campaign against Exeter University. The matched was played at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Exeter and PMVC were being captained by the experienced yet Junior Setter, Victoria Wilkins. Making their senior debut were 3 Ivybridge Tigers, Tom Eabry, Bryony Ford and Fraser Kinross.   PMVC quickly asserted themselves in the match against the Uni side and after a straight forward first set, they also won a very close 2nd set to go 2-0 up. Exeter Uni got into a positive rythym with some fine probing serves and won the 3rd set with ease. The 4th set saw Exeter take a big lead and with PMVC trailing 15-10, Coach Dil Teli called a timeout to steady the nerves. Drakes started to eat away the lead and Wilkins served up a few aces to level the scores at 23 all. with some pulsating rallies and points traded, Exeter Uni took it to a deciding set after a few PMVC errors cost the set 29-27. The fifth and final set was neck and neck but with debutant Fraser Kinross snuffing out the Uni attack PMVC Skills Group Drakes sealed the set 15-11 and started the season with a gutsy win.   Kyle White who was playing in his last match for PMVC for a while due to joining the Navy was impressed with the junior talent PMVC had on show "Obviously Victoria is a quality player and that is why she was awarded the MVP but Fraser is just a natural - I'm really hoping he can get to play with our SeniorMen's squad because he will fit in just fine. I'm going to miss playing volleyball but I am really looking forward to seeing how these guys do when I come back"
