Match Report

What an awesome game up in Exeter. PMVC SG Drakes took on the Spitfires at the riverside and it was a royal humdinger of a match.

First set was edgy and Drakes fell behind 9-2. We fought back but it was too little too late as Torexe won it 25-20. The second set saw Drakes take a 10-5 lead only for Spitfires to get right back into it and lead 15-14. There was an untimely injury to Vic which saw her unable to set but we held on and Meg saw us home with some great serves and tak...e the set 25-23.

I took over setting duties from the 3rd set with Vic moving to outside hitter and the forced changes saw Drakes haemorrhage points early on but I soon found our hitters and Mel started to find his stride through the outside. The turning point of the match ensued when facing 6 set points 24-18 down Anya relied off 7 serves in a row with me, Ben and Mel snuffing out the Torexe attack. The comeback was complete with an awesome block from Ben saw PMVC take the lead and the set 27-25.

The 4th set saw us buoyed by the comeback and we established a lead that Torexe were never able to catch up on. Meg and Vic were serving up a storm as well as some precision hitting at offset and four respectively, but the plaudits went to Anya who had some blocks and kills of her own as PMVC sealed the match with the 4th set, 25-19.

The 5th set was neck and neck and after a couple of contentious refereeing decisions, Torexe muscled their way into the lead with Jacob Towl connected with an awesome short ball. Despite the persistent prowling of the back line by Libero Rosy, Torexe grabbed the consolation set 15-11 but PMVC won out 3-2 overall.

An amazing game enjoyed by all and special credit must go to Rosy and Mel who played a blinder today in new positions. Coaches pick of the day without a shadow of a doubt was Anya who has grown so much as a player in those 5 sets and Victoria picked up MVP for her serves and versatility in playing multiple positions whilst playing through the pain! Well done everyone and thanks to the Medic/ mascot, Ivy who was ready to bandage us up if needed! Go PMVC!
